Terrific Tuesday Tip

Hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful Memorial Day weekend with family and friends. There's nothing like looking ahead to a four-day work week right! I bet there are plenty of leftovers from your cookout or the to-go plate from ones you attended. Either way, don't let them go to waste. Take them along for your brown bag lunch, jazz them up for tonight's dinner by adding more veggies to the chicken or burgers. I know you will think of something as you enjoy these leftovers. Plus, it will give you a free night from cooking and more time to get ready to watch the NBA Finals that begin tonight between the Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks. Have a Terrific Tuesday!

Glorious Sunday

Hello Everyone, today is glorious indeed and gorgeous too. I have been busy with my Sunday usual which is watering all my indoor plants. I had to clip a long piece off one of my golden pothos plants. I was able to cut the piece into two so I will have a couple more plants around soon after they get roots. I saved a couple of jelly jars so they came in handy for the clippings and look pretty cute on the table and counter. One of my fave neighbors likes to grill out so I need to dial the digits and see what's cooking :-) Enjoy yummy eats and have a safe holiday weekend!

Fabulous Friday!

The day is shaping up to be just that...Fabulous! I say shaping up because we finally got some rain in Atlanta late yesterday and it was stormy. The sun has been peeking through the clouds and the temps are warming. I bet lots of people took today off from work to get a jump start on the long holiday weekend ahead. If you are one of them, enjoy all you have planned for the day. I am sure cookouts are part of the weekend as many prepare to host or attend a few.

I see the gas prices have come down a little just in time for those planning to hit the road for the Memorial Day holiday to visit family, friends, or beach getaway. If this will be a staycation holiday for you, make the most of it by finding free events to attend like festivals where you can pack a picnic basket, blanket, and cool beverage to enjoy the sights and sounds.

If you've been invited to a backyard cookout, ask the host what you can bring. Prepare your fave dish or stop by the store to pick something up. Here's a cool idea ->bring a 12-24 pack of bottled water to put in their cooler so everyone stays hydrated while outside in the sunny heat. I am sure whatever you decide to bring, it will be greatly appreciated.

Well, I'm ready to check some things off my to-do list and writing this blog post is one of them. Hey, have a Fab Friday!

Farewell Oprah!

Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the Farewell Show Finale today of The Oprah Winfrey Show. I liked the way she simply spoke from her heart about how much she has appreciated her viewers, guests, and staffers. She looked beautiful as always and I could not take my eyes off her dazzling jewelry. Her words were profound and I especially like when she said "what are the whispers in your life and are you listening to them." In case you missed it when she gave out her email address, here it is ->Oprah@Oprah.com and said don't be surprised if your inbox has a response from her. Thanks for 25 wonderful years, Farewell Oprah!

Cheers to Monday

Yep, cheers to Monday and the beginning of a new week. I bet many of us have started our to-do list for the day and week. Are you wrapping up a project from last week today? If so, that's cool and you can check it off as done. I know one thing that's on my to-do list for the next three days...watching The Oprah Winfrey Show. I'm going to already fess up and tell you that I plan to have a tissue box nearby because it's going to be teary. I can't wait to watch and know that there will be plenty of happiness as we all wish her farewell. Before I close this blog post, check out this neat idea ->take a 3x5 card and spray it with your favorite perfume or cologne. Place the card in your car for a dash of freshness. You can also open those fragrance samples that fall out from magazines or store mailings too. Enjoy your fave scent while out and about. Have a great week!

Happy Weekend

Hope your weekend is off to a great start. The warm temps finally returned to Atlanta after starting the week off on a chilly note. I am planning a day out and about visiting shops around town. I have a plant that my neighbor gave me which she calls "chicks." The plant is quite unusual because you keep it outside even in the winter months and stop watering it during this time too. The planter is full of these chicks and it's time to pull some out to make room for more to grow. Hey, I dig it! I spent a few hours with my gal pal yesterday and went to see her new booth at a neighboring antique store. She used to own an antique store in our town, but closed it at the end of last year. She really has a knack for displaying her items in a neat way and I hope she gets lots of buys from shoppers. We had lots of fun! It's a beautiful day to either wash the car or drive through a car wash. I'm thinking the latter idea. Check out the YouTube video on my blog today of the 70s classic that everybody was spinning back in the day. Just a quick note of thanks to everyone who visited my blog this week and became followers. I truly appreciate your comments and kindness. I have visited and followed some new blogs too and hope to see everyone again soon. Have a Happy Weekend!

Working from Home

For those who work from home running a small business, telecommute a few days out of the week, or work as a freelancer, it can be isolating at times especially when you might be used to an office setting. Here are 3 ideas to help in the day:

1. Step out on the patio or deck with your first cup of coffee or tea before getting started on your work. Use the time to gather your thoughts on the projects ahead for the day.
2. Have lunch with your neighbor who may work from home too or be a stay-at-home mom. It would be a nice way to chat during the hour and engage with others.
3. Take a walk in the neighborhood especially on a beautiful day. You might see a neighbor gardening or walking their dog and stop for a quick catch up. It's a great way to feel refreshed and exercise before starting back on your work.

I like the idea of telecommuting for employees. It sure will help during these high gas prices and long commutes. Plus, it's eco-friendly!

Buying Organic

I mistakenly picked up a small bag of organic carrots during my grocery shopping yesterday. I realized the register price was more than the carrots I usually buy. I didn't want to go back to the produce section to switch them out so I bought them. Today, I washed and cut them up and I must say these organic carrots taste much better than the ones I have been buying. Is it all in my mind...I don't think so. I would like to buy more organic products especially produce, but my food budget doesn't stretch that far. I like carrots a lot and might find a way to add this organic favorite into my shopping basket, Yum!

Debt ->Don't Reach the Ceiling

The U.S. has reached it's debt ceiling and will need to find ways to start paying it off soon. The debt level as of today is $14.3 trillion dollars. I am pretty sure the average person will never see themselves in trillions worth of debt, at least I hope not :-) It's a good idea to try your best not to let your borrowing and credit cards get out of hand. If you find yourself in a pinch or an unexpected expense comes up, try to use the credit card with a low interest rate and possibly not a high balance already. Plus, when the bill arrives and hopefully your cash flow is better, send in a double payment to start paying the card off quickly.

Sunday Thoughts

Happy Sunday and it's cool & breezy with temps in the 60s today. A far cry from the near 90s last week and fall seems to want to make a comeback for the next few days. I guess the tank tops and shorts will get a break as I pulled back out my long sleeved tops and pants. The one nice thing is that it finally rained late last night. My poor grass was starting to sound crunchy :-) I gave my house plants a jolt of plant food last Sunday and they sure appreciated it. When I went around to water them today, I could tell it gave them a burst...I don't think it's my imagination.

I plan to watch more of the NBA playoff games this afternoon. Since the Atlanta Hawks were eliminated by the Chicago Bulls last week, I've got to root for another team. I'll choose soon! I am delighted to have my laptop up and running again. I can't thank my neighbor enough for all the work he put into fixing it. I didn't want to ask him at first because I wasn't sure just how much work would go into it. When I went to pick it up last Sunday, he was giddy with excitement that my laptop was back working. He received his Bachelor's degree in IT about a year ago and was glad to be putting all the knowledge to use as he put it. I'm happy indeed!

Today's Workout Tip

If you have your own office at work, keep a set of 3-5 lb free weights in your office. Grab them for a quick workout routine during your 15-minute break or return from lunch a few minutes early. You don't need to change clothes for this simple workout, just close the office door. Do 2-3 sets of 10 reps that work the arms, biceps, and shoulders. You will be ready in no time flat to show off your shapely arms this spring & summer. Rock the Look!

What's in your Brown Bag Lunch?

Just had to ask as the new week begins. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and great time celebrating with family and friends on Mother's Day. I heard plenty of birds chirping happily this morning so I'm looking forward to a great start to the day and week. Now back to the question of what's in your brown bag lunch? I'm hoping you packed a delicious sandwich with the leftovers from yesterday's dinner. More importantly, a piece of fruit like banana, apple, orange, or pear. Any of those will do fine when you and your co-workers head to the park for lunch outside in the sun. Have a great week!

Happy Mother's Day

Just want to send Happy Mother's Day greetings to everyone. I spoke with my Mom by phone this morning. She received my card and said she started to cry on the words I wrote. When I started to write my own words on the card, the loving thoughts of her love, support and kindness in my life flowed. She gave me the encouragement and confidence that have sustained me in many of life's choices. I was happy to know that her heart was touched. I'm remembering my fave breakfast that my Mom would make called "chipped beef on toast." It's a warm and yummy meal that really can be eaten anytime, but breakfast was even more special when I saw my Mom preparing it. I also have fond memories of my grandmother who passed away a few years ago. I always say that my green thumb for indoor plants came from her. I remember anxiously wanting to help her water the plants out on the back deck. She would say, "Cindy you already watered that one." Enjoy the memories of Mother's Day and all the women who have made an impact in your life. With Love, Mom!

Quick Idea for Mother's Day

If you didn't get to send Mother's Day cards to many of your family and friends, send an e-card to their email address. I am a huge fan of e-cards and they come with pretty, fun & cool pictures to choose from along with music. You can pick just the right theme that fits their personality. Plus, e-cards allow you to add your own personal message which is extra sweet. Don't sweat the small stuff, send an e-card that will truly bring a heartfelt smile to their face.

TGIF is Mighty Nice

TGIF everyone and just as my blog title reads...it's Mighty Nice. This has been a busy week for me as my laptop is experiencing problems. Luckily, I have a tech-savvy neighbor who is looking it over and allowing me to use their desktop for awhile which I might add has all the bells & whistles including a huge screen, Sweet! I hope whatever is wrong with my laptop will be an easy fix. A new computer is not in my budget right now. But, onward and upward as the saying goes :-) I hope this weekend will be a special one for everybody since it's Mother's Day. I mailed a few cards to family and friends to mark the lovely occasion. The weather in Atlanta will be super sunny. Enjoy!

Wonderful Wednesday

It's Wednesday, that day of the week that I really like so much. Why you wonder? It's a good day to review your weekly to-do list which I am sure many of us have or simply the tasks for the day. Take some time to see how things are coming along with what you have to get done. If there are small tasks on your list, knock them out pronto and move on to more time-consuming ones. This is another good day to treat yourself and family to a takeout dinner instead of cooking or reheating leftovers. I'm always talking about saving money, but a stress free night is also some kind of wonderful.

Monday May Flowers

Hello to the new month of May. The rains last month have brought about lots of colorful blooms in the gardens around the states. Along with the beauty of May, it's always nice to give your budget a review to see how well you are saving. The brown bag lunches might be taking their toll, but with the high food and gas prices, you may want to keep packing them. I hope the start of a new week is off and running in a good direction.

Super Sunny Sunday

The day can only be described as Super Sunny Sunday in Atlanta, say that 3 times fast :-) I am hoping you are experiencing the same weather today and for the entire weekend. I'm just basking in all the glorious sun as I prepare to plant a few begonias I bought yesterday at a really good price at Home Depot. The place was crowded with lots of shoppers in the garden center. It was delightful to walk around and peek at the shopping carts of items people were buying. One lady had two small trees with yellow flowers on them. I should have stopped and asked the name of them, Bummer. I have one planter that is empty and I'm glad to finally get my fave flowers to fill it up. My neighbor has a big gardening project going on right now. We chatted a few minutes ago before I started this blog post and she mentioned all she plans to do. I can't wait to step back out later to see how it's coming along. I hope everyone is enjoying the day with family and friends. I cannot think of a better way for fellowship, good eats, and laughter than with loved ones. After last week's devastating tornadoes and the lives lost, it's even more important to spend time with others. If you are not able to be there in person, a phone call is just as nice. Be Blessed!
