Thursday Tidbits

Hello everybody, you know how much I like to share things here and there. So here we go on Thursday Tidbits just for you.

If you are planning a camping trip or just a picnic in the park, reuse an empty Pringles canister to store treats. The canisters come in handy to keep snacks fresh and avoid ants getting inside with the tightly-sealed cap. They are also useful on car trips for storing snacks and other tasty treats.

Do you have an avid reader in the family or maybe it's you? During the summer vacation, choose a book to read and then meet to discuss it. There are a lot of summer reads that are page turners and gives everyone a break from watching too much TV. Make sure the reads shared are age appropriate.

Here's a quote from director Alfred Hitchcock who is my favorite: "A good film is when the price of the dinner, the theatre admission and the babysitter were worth it." ;-)

One of Atlanta's top TV anchors, Monica Pearson is retiring at the end of this month from Channel 2 news. I remember being so impressed with seeing an African-American woman on the local news channel when we moved to Atlanta. A celebration in Monica Pearson's honor was held last night and the Atlanta Journal Constitution has a great gallery of photos you can view here. We sure will miss her smiling face each day!

Grazing in the Grass

Hello everybody, I am about to head out on errands and could not have waited for the the hottest part of the day. Wasn't it me who advised folks to get out early to avoid the heat? Yep, it was but I only have a couple of stops to make and then I plan to stay inside for awhile.

Although, this music video makes me want to find a shady tree and pack a picnic lunch to graze in the grass. I heard this jazz classic on my favorite old school radio program this morning and thought it was the perfect pick on this hot summer day. Have a wonderful weekend!

Under the Shade Tree

Hello everybody to the weekend. There is the best Saturday breeze coming through the open windows in the house. It sure feels good as the heat of the day slowly warms. So what's on tap for you today and the weekend? A friend made her delicious meatloaf and we're to meet this afternoon for chat, laughs, and eats. We will divvy up some of the meatloaf for take home, I can't wait! I hope the breeze keeps up and I'm thinking how good it would feel sitting under a shade tree with a picnic lunch, lovely thought!

Fun & Frugal Weekend

Enjoy these 3 frugal things to do for the weekend:
1. Picnic in the park: Pack a lunch or early evening dinner and enjoy the sights and sounds in your local park. Don't forget the blanket!
2. Thrifty Shopping: Stop by your local consignment and thrift stores to browse and check out what's on the racks. It's nice to patronize the community merchants and skip the big box malls.
3. Family Time: Gather the kids and head outside to wash the car/van, rake the yard and pull weeds, or organize the garage.
