Music, Sports, Subs & Blog Readers

The week was busy and I missed getting the chance to listen to the new album by Matchbox Twenty. The title of the new album is North. I'm listening to it on AOL Music where listeners can hear full albums for free. The lead singer of the band, Rob Thomas is my favorite and he's had a successful solo music career. This new album is the best ~listen to it!

Sandwich
With college back in session, the afternoon football games fill the TV channels especially on Saturday. It's a great day to cheer on your favorite teams. Don't forget to order up foot long sub sandwiches and a bag of chips.

Thanks to my blog readers for stopping by this week and anytime really. It's a joy to see where the viewers come from like the U.S., Russia, Philippines, United Kingdom, India, and South Korea to name a few. It's fascinating and energizes me to post good content.

Birthdays, Old Skool & Cooling Out

Welcome weekend for us all, the sun just made an appearance and the day is looking good. Today is my Mom's birthday and I'm about to give her a call. She lives out West and the time difference is three hours. Although you can call Mom anytime especially on her birthday;-) Also, my brother celebrated his birthday this week.

Of course, my Saturday always starts with "old skool" music on the radio. As a matter of fact, one of Aretha Franklin's hits, "Rock Steady" is spinning as I type this blog post. What does the weekend have in store for you?

I think R&B singer Jerry Butler had the right idea when he made this song. When the errands, chores, and whatever winds down for the day, think about Cooling Out!

Live jazz all weekend long

Enjoy the 2012 Newport Jazz Festival all weekend long brought to us by NPR. The jazz performances have been dynamite and I love jazz.

Weekend Plans, but Coffee 1st

The weekend is looking pretty good despite the clouds still hanging around. Its keeping the temps down for now. I always have to ask my readers what's up this weekend? As I sip my morning coffee, I'm planning my own.

Balloons Happy Birthday
President Barack Obama turns 51 today ~Happy Birthday Mr. President. I bet it will be a nice day around the White House with family, friends and staff. The White House baker is probably whipping up a delicious cake ~gotta blow out some candles.

I was thrilled to read that gold medal gymnast Gabby Douglas will appear on the cover of the Corn Flakes cereal box this fall. She had an historic win on Thursday in her floor performance. Check out the story on the Grio and see a picture of Gabby holding the cereal box. I imagine these boxes flying off the shelves when the cereal hits the grocery store shelves in the fall.

Have a wonderful weekend everybody and appreciate your visits to my blog. I am motivated by your support and driven to make sure the content is not only informative, but a fun experience.

It's the Weekend, Can You Feel It?

Yep, I sure can feel it! What's on tap for your weekend? After writing the post several weeks ago about having a garage sale, I am giving thought of planning my own. I sure could use the extra cash after my car battery repair.

I need at least one table and I called a friend who I believe has one. I will keep y'all posted if I decide to have one next weekend. I plan to price things to sell and not have to haul the goods back inside;-)

I hope the weather is sunny and bright where you live. It's a sizzlin' summer in Atlanta and I recently passed by the Six Flags Over Georgia Amusement Park while driving down the interstate. You can see the rollercoasters from the highway and I imagined the fun time the riders were having at the Park. Enjoy!

Never Leave Empty-Handed

Beautiful Day

One of my friends has a green thumb like me when it comes to plants and flowers. I stopped by her place yesterday and knew when I drove up to the yard there would be blooms everywhere. I was right and the banister on the porch has two flower boxes with petunias flowing down that are gorgeous. We chatted about all the pop up rain showers that are helping to keep the flowers from drying out and with the water bill.

She had some salsa in the refrigerator and we munched on it with nachos. The juicy tomatoes she used in the salsa came from a nearby veggie stand, but her tomatoes are coming along nicely and I could see a few red ones on the vine. I left with a little of the salsa in a small container and topped it on my salad last night. Also, got one of those garden fresh tomatoes. I said to my friend that I never seem to leave her house empty-handed. She is very giving and her sweet Labrador Retriever Sam makes the visit an even more enjoyable experience.

In all our busy times especially on the weekends, it's nice to spend time with a friend where nothing is planned really. If you decide to dash out and go somewhere, that's cool. Otherwise, hanging out at the house is special.

Funk Music Friday

After a pop up shower, the skies are clear and the sun is on blast this evening. I've been busy with odds and ends stuff to wrap up the week. What have you been doing? Just want to give a 'thank you' shout out to all the visitors and followers who stop by my blog. I dig you and appreciate the support!

Here's a groovy George Clinton jam that gets the weekend off to a funky start. Give up the funk!

Ultimate Father's Day Dish

Hello everyone, and it's a great weekend to celebrate Dad. Please share in the comments section your plans for dad on Father's Day? Here is a delicious meal from the CBS Morning Show that looks very tasty. The chef used plantains which is a delicacy I have always wanted to try, but haven't yet. She also mentioned that the dish is a favorite in Puerto Rico where I imagine the food to be savory and flavorful. This is the ultimate Father's Day dish.

What's Happening Weekend

Yep, it's a what's happening weekend here on my blog today. Share with us what you have planned, is the weather nice? If so, bet some of you will be getting out and about, firing up the grill, or planting in the garden. Do tell *_*

While I love the fact that so many websites allow bloggers to share material from their sites on blogs, there are some that do not and that's cool. I mean we are responsible for our own content. For instance, TIME does not have a share button for "Blogger," but you can always mention the story and provide the link back to it. Like this one on "The 10 Most Iconic Hairstyles" that caught my eye today. See all the hairstyles here and I'm going to give one away, it's Pam Grier's Afro ~Iconic indeed.

On Atlanta radio station 92.9 dave fm, they have the lost audio from the rock band, The Cure who performed their first U.S. concert in 1980. The audio was thought to be lost, but you can listen to it below. Head over to the station's website which is full of cool stuff like the MP3 of the Day ~grab it for free!

New Month and the Weekend

Happy weekend kicks off the new month of June. Surprisingly, the temperatures felt fall-like this morning when I stepped out to the patio with morning coffee in hand. The sunshine is refreshingly bright and the sunglasses are a must. What's on your weekend schedule?

I'm heading out to do some errands and visit a friend. She's a great gardener and bet her front door looks so inviting with all the flowers and greenery. Her black lab Sam is always a joy to play around with as he goes to grab his favorite ball for throwing and catching.

Enjoy the weekend filled with fun and happiness!

Yep, another music video ~Rock On!

I told myself this morning that today was going to be pure fun in whatever I planned for the day and weekend. In keeping with that thought and hoping all of you are enjoying a fun weekend too, jam to the Dave Matthews Band performing one of my favorite songs off their last album "Big Whiskey & The GrooGrux King." By the way, DMB will be in Atlanta next Tuesday, May 22. The venue will be rocking all their hits and comfortable shoes are a must because no one will be sitting down for this one.

Yep, another music video ~Rock On!

Weekend plans, what's shakin'?

Hot Air Balloons_2
Happy the weekend is here! The Atlanta weather can be summed up in a word ~Gorgeous. I hope it's just the same where all my readers live. So what's shakin' in weekend plans?

A lot of festivals are going on pretty much everywhere. Grab the sunglasses, picnic basket and water to head out and take in the sights and sounds. I was thinking that even though you may not have a kid that plays a sport, stop by the local community park and watch a game of baseball, soccer or whatever activity is going on. Clap and cheer for any team and good plays especially home runs.

Grab the kid's and take a break from the television or gaming to wash the cars. Get the ride sparkly clean for next week's commute. A little accidental spray from the hose by the kid's is all in good fun, right:-) ~Have a wonderful weekend!

Happy Cinco de Mayo

It's a festive day as the world celebrates Cinco de Mayo which is Spanish for "fifth of May" and a celebration of  Mexican heritage and pride. Anyone have special plans for the day? It's a sunny Saturday in my town and I can't wait get out and soak up bits of sunshine. Enjoy the weekend and all the festive fun on Cinco de Mayo!

Weekend Mix of Things

Hi everybody, April has been Jazz Appreciation Month and this is a music genre that's tops on my list. On Monday, April 30th jazz fusion musician Herbie Hancock and others will celebrate International Jazz Day. Catch the all-star concerts in New Orleans at sunrise and New York at sunset. The International Jazz Day website has all the details.

The weather is simply sunny and will be all weekend in Atlanta. Many of my readers know how much I enjoy birds and have a feeder in my backyard. There are some black crows that have discovered this bounty and are eating me out of house and home. They must be peering from the trees watching when I throw out  goodies like day-old bread into the yard for easy grazing. They've gotten crafty by filling their beaks with lots of bread and flying away. Hmmm, can't go broke:-)

Just today, I came across this internet radio station, Essential Radio by Legacy Recordings. Listeners can choose a variety of music genres and it's a nice way to enjoy music on the laptop. Plus, check out the internet radio station that spins funk music all the time. It's Funk Republic Radio and I am a Contributor writer on the station's blog. My shameless plug!

Atlanta Dogwood Festival

Good Saturday afternoon! It's always nice to ask our co-workers before leaving work what they have planned for the weekend. The responses are interesting as they share their plans for time with family and friends. This weekend is the Atlanta Dogwood Festival happening in Piedmont Park. The weather is perfect as the sun is coming out after a morning of grey skies. The dogwoods are in full bloom and will be so beautiful to see while walking through the park.

The Atlanta Dogwood Festival is filled with an open market of vendor booths where they display and sell their artwork, clothing, jewelry, pottery and more. The food is always fantastic with lots of cultural eats available. This is a family-friendly event that the kids will enjoy. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes for all the walking and leave Fido at home as dogs are not allowed in the park.

Here's a frugal tip ->Save a few bucks by bringing your own sandwiches, snacks and water in a small cooler. There is plenty of open grass areas to take a load off your feet and stop to have a bite to eat. Don't forget to pack a blanket to spread out. It's not too hot to sit out in the sun or under a tree in the shade.

Enjoy the sights and sounds at the Atlanta Dogwood Festival!

Wonderful Week Wind Down

It's after 5 o'clock and this wonderful week is winding down straight into the weekend. There is so much sunshine in the ATL skies and the commute is probably well underway on the interstates.

The Atlanta Braves play their season home opener against the Milwaukee Brewers tonight at Turner field. Fans have fired up the grills for the tailgate party and will head into the stadium soon. The temps will cool by first pitch so hopefully fans brought a jacket. Go Braves!

By the way, it's legendary singer Al Green's birthday today. Why not head over to YouTube and enjoy some of Al's greatest hits like the one President Obama sang a few months ago, "Love & Happiness."

31 Days of March

Happy weekend and the last day in the month of March. This time, there were 31 days instead of the usual 30 so we got an added day. We welcomed spring and time change ahead one hour. Plus, the pollen arrived and had many sneezing and visiting the doctor for relief.

I'm ready to put a flowery plant in the pretty hanger at the front door and watch for hummingbirds to stop by for sips of nectar. I'm heading to get more potting soil this afternoon. Here's a tip ->Add fresh potting soil to the indoor plants before watering. They need a boost from the winter season. Enjoy!

Happy Spring Weekend

Hi, it's the first weekend in spring, what are you doing today? I am heading out this afternoon to a birthday party for my friend's grandson who is turning 2 years old. The party theme is the "bumble bee" and can't wait to see the cake. They have a person who can bake cakes in any shape and last year's cake had a monkey theme. It's a pretty day for a party!

One more thing, Dairy Queen has been showing commercials of their popular frozen treat, the Blizzard. It's a super saver deal for the month of March only. When you buy one Blizzard at regular price get another one for $.99 cents. There are many choices in toppings for the Blizzard like cookie pieces and more. You deserve to treat yourself every now and then. Plus, someone else can get treated too at a rock bottom price. Yum!
