Lovely Day

It's a lovely day in Atlanta and no reason to wait on the sunshine, it fills the sky. I'm humming the hit song by Bill Withers after giving this blog post its title;-) I am listening to one of my favorite Atlanta radio stations that plays classical music from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., WABE 90.1 FM which plays a variety of programs all morning into the afternoon. I've mentioned this station before, but wanted to showcase it again. City Cafe' with host John Lemley is coming up next at noon so tune in as the station streams live online.

As I was looking around for interesting stories that I might share in the post, I came across this one from the NPR website on their Planet Money page. It's about a man that makes beautiful suits, but he can't afford to buy one. Check out the story here and I think you will agree that he has a unique talent indeed.

TGIF Sparkles

OK so did this week go by fast or what? I imagine the weekend to be a busy one as college students pack their things to head back to college. Its going to be an even more exciting time for the new freshmen.

I just saw a lone hummingbird fly in and sip nectar from the flower container. This one stayed for awhile!  The long-awaited movie 'Sparkle' hits theaters today. Of course, many have seen the Trailers and know it stars the late Whitney Houston and American Idol winner Jordin Sparks. CNN has an excellent movie review and you can read it here.

It looks like a mix bag of sun and clouds for Friday. Just like you, I have enough to keep me busy and catch up on from earlier this week. I usually stream several Atlanta radio stations that are my favorites like KISS 104.1 FM which plays the best in R&B and WABE 90.1 FM for classical music. Give them a listen!

I hope the day sparkles in whatever you're doing!

Bright News on TGIF

Thank God It's Friday and while we have a full day ahead, it's been a good week. I was so impressed with the rainfall in my area and throughout Atlanta yesterday. Luckily, the lawn service got the chance to cut my yard and several others before heading back to the truck to wait out the rain.

The sun is out and the day is brighter. I hope it's the same in your city or town although if you need rain, the looming clouds may pour down rain right at your doorstep. Bring it you say! A friend who works for UPS called me this morning to say he read a sign outside a temporary agency that is hiring. I sent in my application and resume online and hope after reviewing it, they will find some positions that fit my skills and experience for placement. Now that is bright news on TGIF!

TGIF & Things

TGIF and the week has been busy. It included the start to a new month of August which by the way has two family members birthdays...my brother and mom only one day apart. I've got to pick up birthday cards soon.

I am listening to the Soundtrack for the upcoming movie "Sparkle" starring Jordin Sparks and the late singer Whitney Houston. If you haven't heard it, head over to AOL Music to play the full CD. The 10 tracks are  great and Whitney sings "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" which is moving.

Breads

Its National Sandwich Month and the Eatocracy page on CNN posted a story about it which you can read here. I love sandwiches and of course taking one for lunch is a money saver. The meat varieties and  bread choices are plentiful. Two of my favorites are pumpernickel and rye topped with lots of veggies.

A second cup of coffee sure sounds good. I had slipped down to one cup mainly because of the heat, but for some reason I could go for one more. How about you, join me;-)

Funk Music Friday

After a pop up shower, the skies are clear and the sun is on blast this evening. I've been busy with odds and ends stuff to wrap up the week. What have you been doing? Just want to give a 'thank you' shout out to all the visitors and followers who stop by my blog. I dig you and appreciate the support!

Here's a groovy George Clinton jam that gets the weekend off to a funky start. Give up the funk!

Friday the 13th

It's Friday the 13th ~chime in the scary music from the classic 80's movie that had audiences spooked. Also, going to summer camp was probably an interesting time for those attending and camp counselors.

Hamburger And Fries

Not to be outdone on the 13th, but its National French Fries Day. Check out some great places that have the best french fries with this feature on MSN. You have to admit that french fries are good and they don't have to be avoided at every restaurant turn when eaten in moderation. Avoid the "super size" by ordering a small size at the fast food places.

So what's on tap for your Friday the 13th? Just another day huh, Yep! The week has been good and I'm looking forward to the weekend. I think the last few days of rain has moved on, but it sure was nice to get downpours. Have a good TGIF!

National Fried Chicken Day

After BBQ on the 4th this week, it's National Fried Chicken Day. A perfect day since Friday's are a big day family and folks like to order take out or go out to eat. It is definitely too hot to fry up any chicken in the kitchen so I bet Kentucky Fried Chicken does a booming business. Plus, two other popular places like Church's or Popeye's are popular chicken joints.
Chicken
One of my late aunts used to fry chicken backs on Friday nights and we would head over there to eat. It was a fun night as uncles and cousins popped in at different times to enjoy some good eating. My aunt sure had a knack for frying those chicken backs and she kept the plate full ~Yummy memory!

Just yesterday, I bought a quarter size watermelon that is refreshing and hydrates at the same time. Make sure to add these to your healthy summer foods and beyond. Have a great day!

Shake, Rattle & Roll TGIF

Hi everybody, I'm feeling giddy on TGIF and ready to shake, rattle & roll the to-do list. Let's meet at the finish line;-) The weather is simply beautiful in Atlanta. I bet many of you are either heading out-of-town for Father's Day weekend or maybe dad lives in the same city. It will be a fun time!

I have a few items to wrap up today. One of them is the possible writing assignment for another blogging site. I need to read over the specifics, but appreciate the chance to showcase my writing skills. I can truly say that my own personal blog has lead to more opportunities like this one.

Since becoming a freelance writer and blogger, keeping an eye out for writing, editing and blogging work is key to gaining experience and name recognition. Check out my latest post on OliveCocoMag, the online magazine where I am one of their 2012 Summer Contributors in the Fitness + Nutrition category. I'm hustling baby!

Happy TGIF

Flowers

Hi everybody, let me start with the Atlanta forecast which is gorgeous. I hope the same can be said in your city. The garden container on my patio is colorful with the petunias and green ivy spilling over the side.

I was looking at the latest weekly ad for Publix that came out yesterday. I make a point to view it online to see what's on sale. The store is having a "Breakfast Sale" with lots of cereals on sale. With the kids out of school for the summer vacation, you might need to load up more on their favorites.

A good staple to have in the pantry are cans of tuna and Starkist is on sale. It's an easy fix for sandwiches or topping on a lunchtime salad. Plus, take them along to the cabin at the lake in case the fish aren't biting. While at Publix, head over to the produce section for a variety of fruits on sale. Load the cart with strawberries, mango, raspberries, canteloupe and watermelon. They all are go-to snacks that pack a healthy punch! It's National Dairy Month with good buys on cheese and Greek yogurt varieties.

Well, this is turning into a money-saving post. Oops, just can't help my frugal self, better quit while I'm ahead;-) Have a happy TGIF!

Focused Friday

The slight morning breeze feels really nice with the windows open. I'm spending way too much time admiring the petunias in the garden container on the patio, they are so colorful. Just put the kettle on for a second cup of coffee as the to-do list gets a glance over. OK, I'm focused.

Quote I read this week ->"Some people will say you are going the wrong way when it's simply a way of your own."

On the Frugal Friday Tip

Pizza: Grilled chicken, artichoke hearts, and arugula Hey, I didn't post many frugal things this week. I got on a music bent and couldn't get off. I do hope everyone enjoyed those posts. So, I was thinking that Friday's are usually a day when folks order take or go out to eat. That's a nice idea to unwind from the week and treat the family and yourself to something different.

On the Frugal Friday Tip ->Check the refrigerator for any leftovers from the last couple of days that might be a yummy addition to whatever you plan to order. If it's a big pizza, finish off the lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers for a side salad. Do a clean sweep of the refrigerator before grocery shopping over the weekend.

A little something for TGIF

Hi there, we made it to Friday and bet it's been a busy week for many of us. I know one thing, it's a gorgeous day in Atlanta. What's the weather like in your city?

Here's a little something -> Lift free weights for about 10 minutes to boost the  arm muscles before getting dressed. Show off those shapely arms in a sleeveless top or dress for date night & hanging out with pals. Glam it up!

Friday's Full Moon

Perfect pick to go along with the full moon brightening the ATL skies tonight!

Roll out the welcome mat, it's Friday

EmoticonYep, roll it out! Are we wrapping up the items on the to-do list? I'm playing catch up after getting behind yesterday from stormy weather. The flowers loved getting wet!

It's been a wonderful week and I'm pursuing  another contributing writing freelance gig with an internet mag. I will keep everyone in-the-know when I hear if it's a go. My fingers are crossed on both hands;-)

Oh, I discovered a hip internet radio station called NuHitzRadio. They followed me on Twitter and I checked out their website. If you want to hear great music right from the laptop, NuHitzRadio brings it!

TGIF + Groove in my Heart

I'm kicking TGIF off on a Deee-Lite note with their hit song "Groove is in the Heart." I'm feeling this groove and it's been a busy week. Don't knock the hustle! I can't believe how fast the month of April has gone by and this weekend is the last for the month. Have you made any plans yet? Time sure flies especially if you're having fun. Join me and get that groove in your heart.

Happy Friday the 13th

Yep, it's Friday the 13th that day when superstitions come out to play. I ain't scared;-) Let's start things off with one of Herbie Hancock's greatest hits, Rock It. Hey, check out Herbie's look on the album cover, it's Groovy. Have a rockin' day everybody!

Mega Millions

TGIF and it's a beauty in the ATL! Hope the skies are sunny in your city. The lottery jackpot is all the buzz for the chance at winning $640 million dollars. OK, we all know the chances are slim when you really think about it. I never play the lottery, but I'm giving this jackpot some serious thought.

In celebration of the good week I've had, I was going to treat myself to a sandwich off the dollar menu at McDonald's today. Shall I forgo my frugal ways and spring for the sandwich and ticket? I could use $640 million, can't we all. If I'm a winner, I can add fries to that order ;-)

Simply Short & Sweet

TGIF, what's been happening with you today? For me, it's been a day for catching up on a few back burner items like mail including the junk ones too. I spent time organizing my email inbox and reading some over again that got a quick scan earlier in the week.

EmoticonThe weather was pretty good with humidity up, but the pesky pollen down after some overnight rain. Have I told you how wonderful my day is knowing you stop by and read my posts? Oh, I did. Never can say 'thank you' enough, right. Simply short & sweet!
