TGIF & Things

TGIF and the week has been busy. It included the start to a new month of August which by the way has two family members birthdays...my brother and mom only one day apart. I've got to pick up birthday cards soon.

I am listening to the Soundtrack for the upcoming movie "Sparkle" starring Jordin Sparks and the late singer Whitney Houston. If you haven't heard it, head over to AOL Music to play the full CD. The 10 tracks are  great and Whitney sings "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" which is moving.

Breads

Its National Sandwich Month and the Eatocracy page on CNN posted a story about it which you can read here. I love sandwiches and of course taking one for lunch is a money saver. The meat varieties and  bread choices are plentiful. Two of my favorites are pumpernickel and rye topped with lots of veggies.

A second cup of coffee sure sounds good. I had slipped down to one cup mainly because of the heat, but for some reason I could go for one more. How about you, join me;-)

3 Father's Day Gift Ideas

It's Father's Day on Sunday, June 17th and time to celebrate and thank our dad's for all the love and support they have given to us. For those whose father's have passed on, the memories from childhood to adults still hold a special place in our hearts.

Do you have the dad who seems to have everything and wonder sometimes just what to get them in the way of a gift. Here are 3 Father's Day Gift Ideas that he is sure to enjoy and appreciate.

--->The Grill Master: If you plan to cookout on Sunday, it might be hard to keep dad from mastering the grill when you want him to just sit back and chill. A nice gift idea would be grilling tools or even a big bag of his favorite charcoal. When firing up the grill becomes a summertime pastime, your dad will reach for that unopened bag of charcoal and smile knowing his son or daughter gave it to him on Father's Day.

--->The Do-It-Yourself Dad: Why call a repairman to fix around the house, dad's pretty handy. We all know our dad's have tackled a DYI project or two. A great Father's Day gift would be to join dad on the DIY he plans to begin soon. It could painting a room, organizing the garage, or yard work. The time spent working together and chatting during the project is priceless. Home improvement store Lowe's has lots of gift ideas in their latest circular.

--->The Coffee Lover: We all probably know which brand of coffee our dad likes to start the morning. If not, mom can give you a heads up. Two brand favorites come to mind...Folgers and Maxwell House. With the price of coffee going up, buy dad a big container of his favorite coffee. If he drinks instant coffee, buy a big jar of that one.

Our dad's will appreciate any gift, but the most delightful will be a visit or telephone call on Father's Day. That's priceless indeed!

Back to Work Tip of the Day

Hot Coffee
Good Monday morning everybody. Yep, it's back to work and a new week of projects and assignments. Let's be honest, sometimes it takes awhile to get going on Mondays and for coffee lovers, a cup or two sure helps to give our bodies a burst of energy from the caffeine.

Just remember to refresh your body with plenty of water while drinking coffee to stay hydrated. You will get that same burst of energy from cool cups of water. If you can, start on a few smaller projects that won't take long to finish and work your way up to the more time-consuming ones. Stay focused!

New Month and the Weekend

Happy weekend kicks off the new month of June. Surprisingly, the temperatures felt fall-like this morning when I stepped out to the patio with morning coffee in hand. The sunshine is refreshingly bright and the sunglasses are a must. What's on your weekend schedule?

I'm heading out to do some errands and visit a friend. She's a great gardener and bet her front door looks so inviting with all the flowers and greenery. Her black lab Sam is always a joy to play around with as he goes to grab his favorite ball for throwing and catching.

Enjoy the weekend filled with fun and happiness!

Focused Friday

The slight morning breeze feels really nice with the windows open. I'm spending way too much time admiring the petunias in the garden container on the patio, they are so colorful. Just put the kettle on for a second cup of coffee as the to-do list gets a glance over. OK, I'm focused.

Quote I read this week ->"Some people will say you are going the wrong way when it's simply a way of your own."

National Banana Bread Day

Hello everybody and I know what you're thinking...here she goes with another one of these 'special' days. Yep, it's true but this one has got to be a fave for many of us, right. Just imagine the aroma of this bread coming from the oven today or this weekend.

Don't let those browning bananas go to waste. Try a recipe you already have available or search for one on the internet. Of course, bananas are high in potassium which is a nutrient that's good for the body. Take it to a sweeter level with this bread and a cup of instant coffee or hot chocolate. It's the perfect beginning in the morning or anytime in the day.

Birthday Recap

Hello readers, just want to take a few minutes to share a birthday recap. I enjoyed a wonderful time yesterday spending part of it talking with family and friends on the phone. I checked my Facebook page and there were lots of birthday wishes on my wall. As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I had to work as the store was doing inventory. There were lots of us working and we got busy scanning & counting merchandise. The store manager set out to get dinner and asked who would like coffee. Now you know I raised my hand and she was going to get the Premium Roast coffee I like so much at McDonald's.

She arrived back with Little Caesars pizzas and crazy bread. Also, chocolate chip cookies. We chatted while enjoying the food and just as I was about to grab a cookie, the store manager came out with a balloon that had a big 50 on it. She also had cupcakes that were grouped closely together with 'Happy Birthday Cynthia' written on top. She got them from Publix and they did a nice job. We burned the midnight oil, but finished the inventory. My 50th birthday was F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S!
