National Filet Mignon Day

Steak Dinner
Mmmm, really;-) I can smell the aroma now in a restaurant's kitchen as the Executive Chef grills a Filet Mignon and plate it up with veggies on the side. Hey, the aroma could be coming from someone's home kitchen who decided to live it up on Monday and celebrate the day with Filet Mignon for dinner. I hope dessert is a brownie with scoops of vanilla ice cream on top.

Garden Tip - Summer Clearance Items

Good Morning Flowers

The home and garden centers like Home Depot or Lowe's are starting to discount their outdoor furniture, seating pads, flower containers, grills and more as the summer season slowly winds down.

If you have been wanting to get some new seating pads for the patio furniture, now is the time to catch these items on sale and store in the garage for next year. Plus, check out the price reductions on flower pot containers to update the curb appeal and patio next season.

The ceramic pots are really pretty, but can be pricey so catching a mark down will be great. One other item that is popular is the outdoor fire pit that will come in handy as the grill is still getting fired up on a cool fall day or evening.

Healthy Grilling Tip of the Day

Veggies

Are you ready to fire up the grill for the 4th of July tomorrow? Make sure to include veggies on the grill like colorful green peppers, sweet or vidalia onions, corn-on-the-cob, mushrooms, and broccoli. These are all healthy additions to the grill and great choices for vegetarians at the cookout.

3 Father's Day Gift Ideas

It's Father's Day on Sunday, June 17th and time to celebrate and thank our dad's for all the love and support they have given to us. For those whose father's have passed on, the memories from childhood to adults still hold a special place in our hearts.

Do you have the dad who seems to have everything and wonder sometimes just what to get them in the way of a gift. Here are 3 Father's Day Gift Ideas that he is sure to enjoy and appreciate.

--->The Grill Master: If you plan to cookout on Sunday, it might be hard to keep dad from mastering the grill when you want him to just sit back and chill. A nice gift idea would be grilling tools or even a big bag of his favorite charcoal. When firing up the grill becomes a summertime pastime, your dad will reach for that unopened bag of charcoal and smile knowing his son or daughter gave it to him on Father's Day.

--->The Do-It-Yourself Dad: Why call a repairman to fix around the house, dad's pretty handy. We all know our dad's have tackled a DYI project or two. A great Father's Day gift would be to join dad on the DIY he plans to begin soon. It could painting a room, organizing the garage, or yard work. The time spent working together and chatting during the project is priceless. Home improvement store Lowe's has lots of gift ideas in their latest circular.

--->The Coffee Lover: We all probably know which brand of coffee our dad likes to start the morning. If not, mom can give you a heads up. Two brand favorites come to mind...Folgers and Maxwell House. With the price of coffee going up, buy dad a big container of his favorite coffee. If he drinks instant coffee, buy a big jar of that one.

Our dad's will appreciate any gift, but the most delightful will be a visit or telephone call on Father's Day. That's priceless indeed!

It's Grillin' Time

With spring in the air, pleasant temps and longer daylight, it's time to take the cover off the grill and fire it up. Most people grill out on the weekends, but change things up by grilling on a weeknight for dinner. Keep the meats light by using boneless skinless chicken breasts which don't take much time to grill. Also, have hot dogs and burgers for a quick grab on the bun. Just add a small salad along with any other sides like baked beans. Top the weeknight off with ice cream sandwiches for everyone. It's a cool dessert that requires no bowl or spoon for easy clean up. Yum!

Happy Labor Day

Hello readers on this Labor Day Monday. Are the grills fired up yet? It's going to be a rainy day in Georgia, but I'm sure many folks will find a window of opportunity to put some good eats on the grill. I hope the day is spent with family and friends plus some well-deserved R&R. I thought you might like to see some yummy ideas  by lifestyle and cookbook author B. Smith on the Today show this morning for your get-together. I really like the jerk shrimp with mixed fruit. Watch for more!
