Jazz Up the Leftovers

Tonight might be a good time to give the refrigerator a clean sweep for any leftovers from the last couple of days that still have some yummy bites left. Jazz up the store-bought pizza by adding stir fry veggies on top. Also, breakfast for dinner with an "all-the-way" omelet sounds delish ~add what you want. When it comes to leftovers, waste not.

National Filet Mignon Day

Steak Dinner
Mmmm, really;-) I can smell the aroma now in a restaurant's kitchen as the Executive Chef grills a Filet Mignon and plate it up with veggies on the side. Hey, the aroma could be coming from someone's home kitchen who decided to live it up on Monday and celebrate the day with Filet Mignon for dinner. I hope dessert is a brownie with scoops of vanilla ice cream on top.

Drought causing grocery prices to rise

I read a story on CNN yesterday that the drought is damaging farmers crops and making it hard to plant anything given the dry conditions. You can read the story here.  Of course, that same story talked about the rise in food prices that shoppers will see given the low yield on veggies and fruits making their way to the grocery stores.

Corn

The grocery items that are corn based will definitely see a rise in prices.  Keep your eye out for the buy-one-get-one-free deals which can amount to savings. We all know the price of peanut butter has not gone down, but up. This is one item that stays stocked in our pantries so any deals you find on this staple is worth stocking up.

We have seen the grocery prices rise for some time now, but the story on the drought will probably hit our wallets even more. Start saving so you can still buy the favorites you and the family have come to enjoy.

Healthy Grilling Tip of the Day

Veggies

Are you ready to fire up the grill for the 4th of July tomorrow? Make sure to include veggies on the grill like colorful green peppers, sweet or vidalia onions, corn-on-the-cob, mushrooms, and broccoli. These are all healthy additions to the grill and great choices for vegetarians at the cookout.

Frugal Tip of the Day

When it comes to buying produce and veggies at the store, make sure not to overbuy. Keep in mind how much of the fruits will be eaten within a few days like bananas for instance. On those, buy two or three that are ripe and ready to eat and a couple that are greener. Those will ripen up after a few days just in time to get peeled for eating. The same goes for veggies. Check the dinner plans for the week and how much of those veggies will be used. With groceries getting more expensive every time we shop, not letting food go to waste is frugal indeed.

Plus this ->Place a bowl of sliced pears, apples or strawberries in the refrigerator so the kids or spouse can grab a few when they are looking for something to snack on between meals.

Welcome Home Aroma

Check out this great MSN video ->How and When to Roast
I recall putting a roast in the slow cooker before leaving for work. The roast would cook all day on a low temperature setting. When I arrived home, the aroma from the roast filled the house. A nice welcome home! The roast is one of those meats that can truly go far in leftovers. I'm getting hungry just thinking of a roast beef sandwich and it's still morning. The cook in the video adds vegetables which gives the roast bursts of flavor. Delish!
