All their collaborations were so nice and this one is too. While looking around for a song to post as the weekend wraps up, I knew BeBe and CeCe Winans was a sure bet and to find a great song featuring Whitney Houston was even more fantastic. Enjoy and have a lovely Sunday night.
OK so did this week go by fast or what? I imagine the weekend to be a busy one as college students pack their things to head back to college. Its going to be an even more exciting time for the new freshmen.
I just saw a lone hummingbird fly in and sip nectar from the flower container. This one stayed for awhile! The long-awaited movie 'Sparkle' hits theaters today. Of course, many have seen the Trailers and know it stars the late Whitney Houston and American Idol winner Jordin Sparks. CNN has an excellent movie review and you can read it here.
It looks like a mix bag of sun and clouds for Friday. Just like you, I have enough to keep me busy and catch up on from earlier this week. I usually stream several Atlanta radio stations that are my favorites like KISS 104.1 FM which plays the best in R&B and WABE 90.1 FM for classical music. Give them a listen!
Today would have been singer Whitney Houston's 49th birthday. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution wrote a short blog which included the Trailer for the movie "Sparkle." You can read the blog post here.
Everyone is anticipating the movie release on Friday and I'm sure the theaters will be packed to see the late Whitney Houston, Jordin Sparks and the rest of the cast. In remembrance of Whitney's 49th birthday, I wanted to play one of her more upbeat songs and this is my fave, "How Will I Know." Happy Birthday, RIP!
On Tuesday of this week, the hit show GLEE paid tribute to singer Whitney Houston. The show airs on FOX at 8 p.m. on Tuesdays. The GLEE cast performed one of Whitney's popular hits "How Will I Know." Actually, I read that this song was one of Whitney's faves. They did a nice job!
Watch Trailer ->Sneak peek: Whitney Houston in 'Sparkle', USAToday
The trailer debuted on the Today show this morning. The movie 'Sparkle' is set for release later this summer in August. Nice to get a sneak peek and see Whitney Houston in her final movie role. The actress Jordin Sparks, who plays the singer's daughter in the movie, has commented that Whitney was an inspiration to the cast.
Hello, I'm sure most of you have heard the coroner's preliminary report on the probable cause of how Whitney Houston died. This story does ask an interesting question on how it was possible that the singer drowned. She was taking a bath and could have slipped down into the tub of water. I should not speculate. The report did mention that heart disease and cocaine use as causes in her death as well. The final report is due out in a couple of weeks. While some people may still question it all, the preliminary report brings us some closure. Her music will always hold a special place in the hearts of her adoring fans. May she rest in peace!
Many of you probably read that Oprah Winfrey has snagged the first interview with Bobbi Kristina Brown, the daughter of the late Whitney Houston and ex-husband Bobby Brown scheduled to air on Sunday, March 11 from 9-10pm ET. The interview will broadcast on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. I don't have this channel and if Oprah still had her show on ABC, I bet this is where the interview would be televised.
I've been listening to some of Whitney Houston's music this afternoon and it's been playing for awhile. I had forgotten that a young Bobbi Kristina spoke a few words on the song "Your Love Is My Love" written by Wyclef Jean. She sounds so sweet saying "sing mommy" in the beginning and "clap your hands" on the ending. Here is the song and video with nice photos of Whitney.
The world spent hours today saying our final goodbyes to superstar Whitney Houston. I watched the Homegoing online and tweeted a lot. It was disheartening to hear on the local radio station that ex-husband Bobby Brown left the service after only a few minutes from arriving. I later learned that he was angry with the ushers who would not allow his nine member entourage in the family seating area. At a time when daughter Bobbi Kristina needed his support the most, he left. Very unfortunate!
The speakers and performers were touching with humor and joy. I did not empty the tissue box while watching, but did pull a few off the top. Sniff Sniff!
The Homegoing service for Whitney Houston will be noon at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey. Pastor Marvin Winans will deliver the eulogy. Stevie Wonder and many others will perform at the service.
As the world says their final goodbyes to the singer, many news outlets will stream live including BET and MSNBC. Atlanta radio KISS 104.1FM will also have a live stream. It's hard to believe that a week has gone by since the breaking news of Whitney Houston's death hit the radio airwaves and television news media began to cover the story.
All this past week, there has been huge coverage on her life with music and interviews with loved ones and fans across the world. The Homegoing service is a term African-Americans have used for the funeral of family and friends. While everyone mourns the loss, their life is also remembered in joyous song and words.
We can truly say that Whitney Houston has left us with memorable music and lyrics that touched our lives. As the angels await her arrival in heaven, her music truly was the greatest love of all.
I loaded this CD in my car changer today. As a matter of fact, the first 3 spots in the changer are Whitney Houston's music. This is the first track on her last album titled "I Look to You" and some described the album as a comeback. That might be true seeing that she had not recorded any new music for a few years and was dealing with personal struggles.
The video is a super collage of photos and scenes that go well with the song. It really holds your attention while listening to the hit. For tonight, a more upbeat spin fits the bill. Miss You!
My heart is heavy on the death of Whitney Houston. She was 48. Not only is the entertainment world in shock, but all her adoring fans. Despite her past problems with drug addiction and stints in rehab, she seemed to be making progress. Just this past week, Whitney was seen out and about and was in Los Angeles for tomorrow's Grammy Awards.
I was preparing dinner and listening to the radio when the music was interrupted with the announcement on her death. I jumped online and over to Twitter which was buzzing with tweets of condolences. My thoughts and prayers are with Whitney's daughter, Bobbi Kristina, mother Cissy Houston and the entire family. I remember when Whitney Houston's first album came out with her on the cover. Her hair was pulled back showing her natural beauty. I bought the album as a cassette and played it all the time. I was in college and pledging a sorority, I remember it well. One of my favorite songs off that cassette was "Saving All My Love For You."
Whitney Houston has had so many hits since that first album including the Soundtrack for the movie The Bodyguard which she starred with Kevin Costner. Her remake of the Dolly Pardon song "I Will Always Love You" is everybody's favorite. Whitney Houston, the pop Diva with the angelic voice, may she rest in peace!
