Tip of the Day

Afternoon hello and I know what you're thinking...a tip on Sunday, get a grip woman;-) But wait, this is a good one.

SmileyHere it is ->Take a few minutes to clean & wipe off the desktop computer and/or laptop. The crumbs and sticky fingers can build up on the keyboard and mouse. The adorable house pets and their shredding hair can land on the computer too. Use a soft cloth to wipe off the screen and alcohol swab to lightly sanitize the keyboard and mouse. The dust spray in the can specifically for computers is a terrific way to clean in the crevices on the laptop to blow out crumbs and dust. You might be surprised at what flies out as we are all guilty of eating and snacking while on our computers. Enjoy the extra daylight!

Thursday Tidbits

I'm in the mood for a few tidbits today, here you go:

--->Happy National Coffee Day ->Here's a day I like a lot. I am enjoying my second cup as I write this blog post. I just glanced at the coffee pot which looks to have just enough to add to this cup. Clearly I don't want to just pour it down the drain...waste not! If your schedule permits, meet a friend for coffee and chat after work at your nearby coffee spot.

--->Fall Cleaning ->One of my neighbors must be doing some fall cleaning. I've seen blinds and area rugs hung out to dry in the sunshine in their backyard. With the arrival of the fall season, many of us will be sprucing up our places from the summer months. I was in the dollar store the other day and went down the cleaning products aisle. I'm ready to do some fall cleaning and last year I used Spic & Span with an orange scent that was delightful. I like to keep a few windows open to let in some fresh air when using cleaning products, but this one is not harsh. This weekend, I plan to turn off the ceiling fans and clean the blades. I already know there will be dust that settled on the blades. When I cleaned them last year, they looked so fresh and the pleasant scent from the Spic & Span filled the house. I hope your fall cleaning will be just as pleasant.

Handy Household Tip

Give those worn t-shirts and towels a second life. Use them in place of paper towels when you can to cut down on the cost of buying paper products which has become so expensive. The old rags come in handy for cleaning around the house, wiping inside the car, small spills, and more. Just keep them separate when laundering and store them on the laundry room shelf or bin for easy access. It's pretty eco-friendly too.

Clutter Free Tip

Keep favorite collectibles to a minimum around the house. As most home designers suggest, it's best to group your favorites in 3's. It will make for a neater and clutter free look on the tabletop or bookshelf where they are displayed. Plus, it will be a breeze to remove and replace them when it's time to dust.

A Refreshing Tidbit

To freshen the garbage disposal, cut up the peel of an orange and place them in the disposal. Turn on the disposal to crunch up the peels. The aroma from the orange peels will be a refreshing delight. Try It!

3 Early Fall Tips

I am tickled with the fall season and wanted to share 3 early fall tips as we usher in cooler temperatures.

1. Ceiling Fans ->They have been turning all summer long helping to keep the inside of your home cooler. When you turn them off, prepare to clean the blades of dust that has collected on them. I can assure you there will be plenty. The ceiling fans will look fresh and clean.

2. Jersey Sheets ->A set of jersey sheets are a must-have for the bed to keep you warm on these cool fall mornings and nights. These sheets are not quite as heavy as flannel sheets and are perfect for this time of the year.

3. Walking Shoes/Pedometer ->Now that the temperatures outside are cooler, it's a good time to step up your walking routine. Check your walking shoes for wear from the spring/summer to make sure the tread has not worn down. Also, purchase a pedometer which is not very expensive to track your walking steps. It clips securely to your exercise clothing.

Just a few fall tips to welcome the new season.

Eco-Friendly Tip

If you have t-shirts that are tattered and no longer being worn, cut them up and use for dusting and cleaning around the house. Toss them in the laundry and re-use. This cuts down on using so many paper towels and it's more eco-friendly.

3 Tidbits for You

1. Before walking through the house in the shoes you've worn all day and tracking in dirt, switch into some slippers or flip-flops to help keep your carpet and floors clean. Place these shoes at the door you enter daily for quick change.

2. Wash your hands after returning home before putting away the shopping and touching objects inside the home.

3. When cleaning the toilet bowl, don't forget to wipe off the flusher handle where germs can remain. Also, clean around the soap dispenser too.

Monday's Money Saving Tip

Most of us have a hand soap dispenser at the sink in our kitchen and bathrooms. I counted four dispensers in my home and I am guessing you probably have just as many in yours. So having to buy new dispensers for each location once the soap runs out can be expensive.

To save money, buy a big refill bottle and use it to refill each dispenser. If you have a dispenser with a front design that really fits the decor of the kitchen or bathroom, you may not be able to find it again. Thus, the refill bottle solves this dilemma.

I'm always thinking of ways to save money and hope you enjoyed this tip. Have a great day!

TGIF Tips

  • For portion control during mealtime, use salad size plates for meals. This will help filling the plate with too much food.
  • Don't forget to wipe down the leaves on artificial trees and flowers during spring cleaning. The winter heat causes lots of dust to settle.
  • Planning day of errands ->take a few minutes to map out where you will shop so that you can determine which stores are near each other. Saves on gas!
