Tip of the Day

Afternoon hello and I know what you're thinking...a tip on Sunday, get a grip woman;-) But wait, this is a good one.

SmileyHere it is ->Take a few minutes to clean & wipe off the desktop computer and/or laptop. The crumbs and sticky fingers can build up on the keyboard and mouse. The adorable house pets and their shredding hair can land on the computer too. Use a soft cloth to wipe off the screen and alcohol swab to lightly sanitize the keyboard and mouse. The dust spray in the can specifically for computers is a terrific way to clean in the crevices on the laptop to blow out crumbs and dust. You might be surprised at what flies out as we are all guilty of eating and snacking while on our computers. Enjoy the extra daylight!

Healthy Tip->Posture

Be mindful of your posture when working on the computer at your workstation or desk. Try to keep from slouching which can really take a toll on the back over time. It's easy to get involved in a project and end up spending hours at the laptop. Take short breaks to stretch & walk around to keep the back muscles from tightening up and help with circulation in your legs. A chair with good back support is a healthy idea.

Laptop Love

This has to be the prettiest day with all the sunshine. I'm sure by now the clocks in the house have all been turned back an hour. One thing about the time change is that it will get darker earlier. I am sure many of us have been used to being out and about since it was lighter longer. Be careful now that the time has changed and maybe make some changes to running errands & stuff to beat the darkness.

I am feeling plenty of Laptop Love today. My friend came over yesterday and like I mentioned in my Friday post, we lunched at O'Charley's. We had the best time catching up. Guess what?...she brought some sweet potatoes, spaghetti squash, peas & green beans from her garden. I had forgotten she had a veggie garden this summer, but glad to reap the benefits from the harvest. Plus, two frozen steaks. She drove her dad's Pontiac G6 which has a hard top retractable convertible. We put the top down in the driveway to see how it looked, but it was too cool to drive with it down. I said to my friend, "your dad is super bad" with this sporty ride, she laughed. I checked my card collection for a 'thank you' card and have one to send to my friend.

It is so nice to have a laptop at home. I appreciated being able to use the computers at the library, but only had limited time for the whole day so I really got behind. I plan to spend some time catching up on comments on my blog and visiting other blogs to see what everyone has been doing. Thanks for sticking with me!

TGIF Tidbits

It's a sunny TGIF, but breezy. A brush will come in handy to keep the hairdo from looking wind blown. I hope everyone is having a good day. It has been a busy week for me starting with having no laptop. I have been trying to keep up with emails and my blog. Also, I had been searching for some writing & editing gigs, but had to halt until I get a running laptop. The library has been a lifesaver and a few times I was able to get added time on the computer when no one had it reserved. I heard from my friend who is giving me her old Dell laptop. We are meeting up tomorrow and she wants to treat me to lunch. I was all set to fix us my famous grilled cheese sandwich & salad, but it will be nice to enjoy her treat and chat. I think we're going to the nearby O'Charley's, I like their menu items and I have a $5 off coupon. Enjoy your TGIF!

Halloween Monday

Hello everybody and it's a sunny Halloween Monday! Let me start off  by writing that some ghouls & goblins must have taken over my laptop over the weekend. I was working on it late Saturday and the monitor faded to black. I was like "what's up?" It turns out that the monitor bit the dust per my tech-savvy neighbor. It looks like I will be using the local Library computers for awhile. A good friend has a Dell laptop that she is not using so we will meet up soon for me to get it. I'm happy and relieved.

So whose handing out candy this evening for the trick-or-treaters or taking the kiddes out? Have lots of fun and keep the porch light on for safety. Have a Spooktacular day!

Autumn Monday

Good Autumn Monday and nice to start the week in the new season. I enjoyed a nice weekend and spent yesterday with friends who decided to throw some burgers on the grill. She had the freshest veggies to top off the burgers and still had a few garden tomatoes left along with sweet vidalia onions. We could not have asked for better weather to be outside. Now it's time to look ahead to projects and new ideas this week. After attending the online International Freelancers Day last Friday, I came away with some good tips to build upon and energized to move forward in the world of freelancing. The laptop is fired up, me too!

Visit the Local Library

Several months back, my laptop crashed and I was without it for a week. Thankfully, my tech-savvy neighbor made repairs and it's working like a charm. During this downtime, I went to the local library to use the computer. They have quite a few computer stations and you have to reserve a computer using your library card. It's a great service and you get an hour of use. I was happy to have access to check email, social media and my blog. After I finished my work, I took a moment to walk around the library and check the books on the shelves. There were plenty of paperbacks, hardcovers and more. I know the e-readers, iPads, etc. are all the rave now for reading books. Maybe I'm too old school, but placing a bookmark into the pages of a real book are still my favorite thing. I started reading Terry McMillan's follow up novel 'Getting To Happy' after buying the hardcover at the dollar store, yeah for a $1. With all the technical gadgets for reading, I felt a bit out of place and not quite 'with it' when placing a bookmark at the chapter where I will pick up the story. Now that I don't have to use the library computers anymore, I won't count out this great resource when looking for a good read. They have plenty of picks and perusing the stacks is fun too. Take the kids and let them pick out a fave book and make sure there are plenty of bookmarks for everyone!

Sunday Thoughts

Happy Sunday and it's cool & breezy with temps in the 60s today. A far cry from the near 90s last week and fall seems to want to make a comeback for the next few days. I guess the tank tops and shorts will get a break as I pulled back out my long sleeved tops and pants. The one nice thing is that it finally rained late last night. My poor grass was starting to sound crunchy :-) I gave my house plants a jolt of plant food last Sunday and they sure appreciated it. When I went around to water them today, I could tell it gave them a burst...I don't think it's my imagination.

I plan to watch more of the NBA playoff games this afternoon. Since the Atlanta Hawks were eliminated by the Chicago Bulls last week, I've got to root for another team. I'll choose soon! I am delighted to have my laptop up and running again. I can't thank my neighbor enough for all the work he put into fixing it. I didn't want to ask him at first because I wasn't sure just how much work would go into it. When I went to pick it up last Sunday, he was giddy with excitement that my laptop was back working. He received his Bachelor's degree in IT about a year ago and was glad to be putting all the knowledge to use as he put it. I'm happy indeed!

Exercise Tip of the Day

Good Monday Hello! As someone who enjoys starting the day with warm coffee, I like my coffee pretty hot. I place the mug in the microwave for about 30 or more seconds for extra warmth. If I get busy on a project at my laptop, my coffee gets lukewarm so I add the extra warming just in case. So that little tidbit leads me to the Exercise Tip of the Day:

While heating items in the microwave, do a couple of sets of squats, lunges, arm twirls, side bends, or any standing exercise while you wait. This is a great way to work in some exercise throughout the day. Try it!
