Family-friendly Freebies

Summer Surfing
Hello everybody, the skies are grey but it looks like the sun is coming out. One thing is that the temps are cool. I just glanced out into the backyard and the new huge doves are back pecking away at the bird seeds. I don't know where they came from and counted about eight of them fly in together.

I need a new battery for my car, Yep! A friend plans to come rescue me and go buy another battery. While this expense will set my budget back for the month, this is a case in point of having an emergency fund for car repairs that pop up.

Anybody heading out to a festival or concert? This is the time of the year when free festivals are all the rave on the weekends. The free concerts in the park are also a favorite and communities will have them at least once a month. If so, pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the music and good eats. Don't forget to scan the community paper to see what's happening this weekend. Oh, a dip in the community pool or the neighbors sure sounds nice ~grab the beach towels and sunscreen for a family-friendly freebie full of fun.

Weeknight Family Fun

Who says you have to wait for Fridays or the weekend for a family fun night. That's right, nobody. The holiday leftovers are surely long gone by now. How about grilled cheese sandwiches, small salad and some chips on the side for dinner tonight?

Wait a minute, can't leave out something sweet and ice cream is a perfect pick. Before leaving the office today, call home and ask the kids what flavors they would like you to pick up at the grocery store. There are lots of buy-one-get-one-free and 2-fer deals at the stores these days. Grab ice cream cones too.

You might be wondering why I would suggest chips and ice cream with childhood obesity and Type II Diabetes on the rise. I hear ya, but I believe in "moderation" with anything and not making certain foods so taboo. Plus, everybody can work it off after dinner by playing video on the Wii player or charades. Now that's family fun!

Now Playing - Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation

GREAT FAMILY MOVIE ->Mr Hobbs Takes a Vacation (1962) via Classic Cinema Online
Happy Fun Friday and this classic movie sets the day off nicely. It's a favorite starring James Stewart and Maureen O'Hara. Think back to your family vacations long ago and those enjoyed now. Getting everything packed and into the car can be challenging, but worth it.

Not to give too much away, but the scene at the beach where Mr. Hobbs meets a beach bombshell who introduces herself and the book she's reading, "War and Peace" is cute. I hope she has lots of sunscreen for time in the sun reading that huge novel:-) Enjoy the movie, it's loads of fun!

Go Fly A Kite

It is a beautiful Sunday afternoon with just enough breeze that flying a kite in the the backyard or park would sure be nice. I recently received the sale flyer for Bed Bath & Beyond and there were some colorful kites in the ads. Not only are kites a fun activity for the kids, but adults too. Happy Sunday!

Saturday skies are blue

It's truly "calm after the storm" across the regions in many states which sustained total loss and severe damage from tornadoes, wind & rain. Here in Georgia, the local news channels covered the tornado warnings well keeping viewers up-to-date to take cover in their homes. My community had heavy downpours and I woke at 3:30am or so to pounding rain outside. I am so glad to have a one-car garage at my town home to keep the car safe during this kind of weather.

So what plans do ya'll have for the weekend? The gas prices might be keeping many people close to home. Remember to coordinate the errands for better use of time and trips. The to-do list we write out during the weekdays comes in handy on the weekends too. Plan the route and save gas!

SmileyIt's really nice to see the blue skies today. Have a nice weekend of family-friendly fun, walks with the dog, and time with your sweetie pie;-)

Under the BIG Top

This is a spectacular Circus that arrives in Atlanta every year. It's a family-friendly event and the kids love the fun under the BIG Top. The Circus will be in town until February 26. Don't miss the chance to see and enjoy the performances by the trapeze artists, hip/hop dancers, contortionist twisting their bodies in the most amazing ways, and the Soul Circus Divas performing with the elephants. Fun for everyone!
