National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month

Last night while watching First Lady Michelle Obama, I was so impressed with how fit she looked. We all pretty much love her shapely shoulders and she has put forward a lot with the 'Let's Move' initiative along with Second Lady Jill Biden and a host of White House staffers. The promotion for healthy eating and encouraging more exercise for children is a great initiative that really took off.

In my opinion, the First Lady gave a wonderful speech full of energy and inspiration last night at the Democratic National Convention. I'm sure the White House garden yielded some fresh veggies and fruits this season that made it to the dinner table for the First Family.

The President has proclaimed September 2012 as National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month to promote healthy living for our children.

Fitness Challenge at the White House

I was up pretty late last night and saw this piece on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. The First Lady Michelle Obama and host Jimmy Fallon are in a fitness challenge at The White House. Even Bo the dog is looking on and cheering for the First Lady I'm sure:-) This is the second year of the 'Let's Move' Initiative that the First Lady began last year to encourage kids to get out and exercise. With childhood obesity on the rise, eating healthy and exercising is very important.

Let's see who won the fun fitness challenge which included pushups, tug-of-war, hula hoop, dodge ball, and ended with a potato sack race. I will say this...the First Lady is very fit and she's an inspiration for all of us to be healthier.

Healthy Eating ->New Plate Icon

I'm so excited that the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced today that they have changed from the food pyramid to a new Plate icon. The new plate icon shows the food groups more clearly that should be a part of your meal and promotes a plant-based diet. I think people will like it and give more thought to what's on their plate when eating. It's all about healthy eating and this is a move in the right direction, Yum!
