Spring Break Tip

Monday hello and back in stride for a new week. With the high gas prices and tight family budgets, the 'staycation' is back in vogue or maybe it never left.

Here's a spring break tip ->Gather the kids and decide together some local places everyone would like to visit and make a "calendar of events" for spring break week. Pack lunch, snacks and cooler with bottled water to take along for the adventures. Throw a blanket in the car to spread out on the grass to have lunch in case a park visit is on the itinerary.

The kids will enjoy having a part in planning for their spring break and will probably share where they are going with their buddies who might ask "can I go?" Don't forget to check the websites for places you plan to visit for specials and more. For all their excellent work in school, the kids sure deserve a break!

Be Merry & Healthy

Many of us will not only host our own Christmas dinner, but will attend other family & friend holiday events as well. While most people have cutback on using a lot of seasonings in the dishes they are preparing especially salt, the best thing to do is taste the food on your plate first before automatically reaching for the salt & pepper shakers. There may be just enough seasoning and nothing needs to be added. One more thing, drink plenty of water with your meals to help stay hydrated throughout the many gatherings you will attend. Be Merry & Healthy!

Marvelous Monday

Hello everybody, it's a Marvelous Monday beginning with the forecasted temps near 70. This will be a great start to the new week & fall day. I bet the to-do list already has some checks on it for 'done' and that sure is good. No need to dread what's on it, just get started. By drinking plenty of water and eating healthy snacks throughout the day, you can ward off the sluggish feeling that likes to creep in and zap your energy. Don't let it, be Ready!

Healthy Tip

While the temps may have cooled a bit in your city, keep drinking lots of water throughout the day. You may not be feeling quite so thirsty since the weather is not scorching hot, but it's still important to stay hydrated even on a cool day. Drink Up!

Commute Tip

If you're feeling a bit sluggish as you head out the door for the commute into work or school, take along a cold bottle of water to sip while driving. Place the bottle in the freezer a few minutes before leaving the house to help it stay cold during the commute. Always try to stay hydrated as much as possible. Have a great day!

Ways to Beat the Heat

I'm thinking nothing but cool thoughts and finding ways to beat the heat. Here are just a few:

--->Drink plenty of water to stay steps ahead of dehydration. Make sure there's a full pitcher of cool water in the refrigerator.
--->Stay cool by eating more salads, watermelon, and any other fresh fruits.
--->Be very careful outdoors even if you are working in the shade and take plenty of breaks to cool down.
---> Try to avoid using the kitchen oven for roasting or baking. If you have a slow cooker, use it instead to keep from heating up the house.
--->
A store bought rotisserie chicken is right on time. For the sweet tooth, a couple of Oreo or chocolate chip cookies from the bag are simply perfect.

Stay Cool my Friends!

Happy 4th of July

Just a short blog post to wish my readers a Happy 4th of July! I bet many of you have the grill fired up already and lots of good food cooking. In this heat, it's a good idea to get started early. Remember to drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated. Enjoy the day with family, friends and neighbors. I know some areas are experiencing drought conditions and are discouraging fireworks or may have banned them altogether. If sparklers are OK, the kiddies would probably like to see them light up. Be Safe & Have Fun!

It's Hot, but Keep on Walking

I saw one of my neighbors out walking this morning and my thoughts were that she's getting her walking exercise in early. The heat in Atlanta has been brutal and pretty much all around the country. I have read other bloggers mention the heat in their cities too. I am an avid walker and this heatwave makes it hard to keep up. The early morning walks can clear your mind before the day's activities begin and listening to the birds chirping is really nice. Take Fido along with you to give them their daily dose of exercise too. I purposely park a safe distance when I'm out & about so that I can sneak in some walking to and from my car. It's hot, but keep on walking by heading out early or later in the evening to beat the heat. Remember to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated throughout the day!

TGIF Already!

Yep, it's TGIF and seems like the end of the week rolled around quickly especially for those who had Monday off for the holiday. I plan to check over my to-do list and finish up items that aren't marked done. If you have errands to run this weekend, beat the heat by getting up early to get a head start before the temps rise. Always remember to drink plenty of water while out and about. I read that's today is National Doughnut Day! This is pretty sweet and a good reason to head over to the bakery section of your local grocery store and grab a few doughnuts for the family, Yum!

I want to thank all my new followers this week and for those who continue to read my blog. I appreciate everyone and your comments are so kind. I love visitors, so keep stopping by!

Healthy Tidbit

During the summer months, I mentioned drinking lots of water to stay hydrated. Now that the fall and winter seasons are here, it's just as important to stay hydrated with water even though the temperatures are not so warm. Keep one step ahead of that sluggish feeling by drinking water.

3 Healthy Tips Just for You!

Here are 3 healthy tips that reap plenty of benefits:

1. As the weather starts to cool, step up your walking program with early morning or evening walks. The hot summer months may have slowed down getting out often due to the heat. Get back in stride!
2. For portion control at mealtime, use a salad-size plate. This helps keep you from filling the plate with too much food.
3. If you feel sluggish while working, step away from your desk or office for a few minutes. If you can, go outside for some fresh air and drink plenty of water for hydration. Skip the chips or sweets.

Every little bit of healthy eating and exercise is beneficial for all of us.
