Night Owl Specials

EmoticonI came across some interesting things and just thought I would share them before you catch those zzz's and for those night owls who may still be up;-)

Several months back, I mentioned in a blog post about twin brothers Kais and Mazin Shammas from the UK who are singer/songwriters on a path in the music industry. They were born and raised in London and go by the name BRITROYAL. They posted on Facebook that they have a new website so I checked it out and its loaded with lots of information from videos, photos, and music of course. Check them out!

Lastly, head over to one of my favorite websites called Bit Rebels. I am Facebook friends with the Founder and CEO of Bit Rebels who also writes fantastic posts. He's super geeky and he knows it. They cover technology, social media, and other geeky stuff. All the writers on Bit Rebels create great posts like this one about the Leafy Tunnel of Love located in the Ukraine ~this is a must-see;-)

Good night you night owls and that includes me!

A Mother's Love

It's a rainy Mother's Day in Georgia. I just got off the phone wishing my Mom a happy day and we talked for hours. She lives in Mesa, Arizona having moved there in January of this year. The trek from Indiana took two days, that's a long drive. Even though many miles separate us, we cherish the time spent chatting on the phone, sending emails, and reading updates on Facebook. Just the other day, my cordless phone started beeping during one of our marathon calls ~Happy Mother's Day!

Living in an Abbreviated World

I have noticed that abbreviations are used more these days especially with text messaging to cut down the phone charges when using so many characters. Also, on the popular social media site Twitter, you can only use 140 characters for your Tweets so an abbreviation comes in handy. Plus, they are great to use for Twitter #hashtags...you know what those are right;-) You're followers will understand.

For instance, the show "Dancing with the Stars" gets shorted with "DWTS." Even the President of the United States title gets abbreviated by using POTUS. The First Lady doesn't get left out either, her title reads "FLOTUS."

We're living in an Abbreviated World and it saves time when so many of us are on-the-go. LOL!

Change is Good

This two-minute video about the new changes on Facebook is helpful. I'm guilty of being a creature of habit and will need time to get used to the new look and features. Change is good...I guess!

Be Safe ->Meeting Offline

I read a story in the Atlanta Journal Constitution today about a lady who met her online acquaintance and was robbed of cash. Apparently, she stopped by her credit union to cash a check and the person then stole the money and jumped out of the car. I was puzzled because the story mentioned that the two of them were driving around in her car. This is clearly a no-no when meeting someone for the first time. It's always best to let them drive their own car to the meeting place. Never agree to pick them up in your own vehicle. If they can't get to and from the meeting location, this is clearly a red flag no matter what excuse they give for not having a car. Always meet during daylight hours and never in any secluded location. The excitement of finally meeting the person you have been communicating with online might make you let down your guard a bit on safety. The fact is, you don't know this person aside from your online chatting which is the way that a lot of people are meeting up these days. The many social media and matchmaking sites have probably increased the way people are meeting new friends too. I am not knocking these ways because you can meet some very nice and interesting people.

The bottom line is that we all have to be extra careful and safe when deciding to finally meet that person you have been chatting with online. When you decide to set up meeting, never let them pick you up at your residence. Be prepared to drive yourself to wherever you plan to meet. I would suggest meeting for coffee or lunch in places where there are plenty of people and daylight hours left in the day. A dinner date might seem romantic, but it's usually dark by that time unless you make it a super early dinner.

Please be safe when you finally set up that meeting offline. He or she may be charming and trusting, but you just never know their intentions.
