Hump Day Wednesday Rocks!

Frugal Austerity

The recent news stories of the austerity plans Greece will implement with tax hikes and spending cuts aren't going over so well with the country's citizens. I read that it's a must for Greece to develop this plan in order to receive financial assistance by the International Monetary Fund. The U.S. economy is still bouncing back from the worst economic disaster since the Great Depression so belt-tightening is happening all around the world. I know cutbacks to family budgets are probably still going on. My frugal lifestyle helps me maintain a comfortable living, but it's not easy at times especially with high gas and food prices. I am always encouraging people to save and budget their money. If you got a raise or bonus on your job, put it in your savings account. The vacation season is here and families may be finally giving the staycation the boot. Be frugal and live an austerity life so you can head to a beach getaway for summer enjoyment. Don't forget to take along your favorite read!

Few remaining door-to-door sales people | PRI.ORG
I just had to post this story because I was intrigued to know there are still sales people going door-to-door. The salesman being interviewed in the story has a great attitude for a job he's been doing for years. I remember seeing sales people ringing doorbells while visiting at my grandmother's house many years ago. They even rang our doorbell :)

I am happy for their success with this product, but it's not for me. I would rather do my glute exercises to give my derriere shape and lift. I wonder if ladies would where it everyday or maybe just for a curvy look while out on the town or special event ;-)

Moody Monday!

Yep, Monday is here and the beginning of a new week. I recall wearing all black to work on Mondays. I look back now and think was that dark color describing my mood or an easy outfit decision. I say perk up your back-to-work outfit with a pop of color. I bet the compliments will be flying from your co-workers when they pass your desk on how nice the color looks on you. Try wearing some of the bright colors that are all the rave this season like yellow, lime green, orange, and fuschia. If you need a mood buster, these bright colors might help get you ready to take on the day. Don't stop at Monday, keep mixing it up all week long!

Happy Friday, Gorgeous Too!

It seems like Friday came around fast. I'm not complaining, it's surely the fave day of the week. So what's on your to-do list to finish up today? For me, a few things to wrap-up. I visited my neighbor who has one of the greenest thumbs I've ever seen. The front entrance is welcoming as you approach to ring the doorbell. We snapped this picture of me admiring the many flowers and lovely scents coming from them. I believe you have to stop and smell the roses and I did just that in this photo ;-) Thanks to all my blog readers who continue to support me with your visits and nice comments. The success of my blog would not be complete without all of you. It's a Gorgeous Friday, Enjoy!

Beach Boys - Fun Fun Fun

Just wanted to add a little bit of Fun on Hump Day Wednesday!

It's Hot, but Keep on Walking

I saw one of my neighbors out walking this morning and my thoughts were that she's getting her walking exercise in early. The heat in Atlanta has been brutal and pretty much all around the country. I have read other bloggers mention the heat in their cities too. I am an avid walker and this heatwave makes it hard to keep up. The early morning walks can clear your mind before the day's activities begin and listening to the birds chirping is really nice. Take Fido along with you to give them their daily dose of exercise too. I purposely park a safe distance when I'm out & about so that I can sneak in some walking to and from my car. It's hot, but keep on walking by heading out early or later in the evening to beat the heat. Remember to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated throughout the day!

Happy First Day of Summer

OK, it's officially the start to summer! The temps around the country have felt summery for awhile and springtime almost got the boot early. Let the summer vacations kick into high gear as families plan their getaways. I bet it's a fun time around the households as parents and kids decide where to go. I remember our family vacations were spent on the lakes in Michigan. One of my uncles had a cabin on the lake and we would spend time there. One year we drove to Minnesota and the memories of that vacation live on. The fresh catch of the day made for a delicious meal. It's a beautiful day on the first day of summer!

Everything in Moderation

Hello everyone and hope your Monday is off to a fine start. It's going to be a hot week of temps for Atlanta, but I think we're getting used to it...well maybe. One of my Twitter followers tweeted this yesterday ->do everything in moderation, even moderation. I thought it was clever and retweeted it. It made me think about all the different things that are a part our daily lives. We may deny ourselves a favorite food because it's not part of the diet craze we might be trying out. A former boss replied with the same type of response as the tweet when I asked him one day about only drinking one cup of coffee while the rest of us clearly were having 2-3 cups. He simply responded that he believed everything in moderation. We have so much happening in our lives including work, family, outings, and more that it's hard to moderate it all to help avoid becoming overwhelmed. Just like trying to set up a budget plan. It can be done in moderation by deciding on a savings amount that fits comfortably with your income. You don't have to feel guilty by not being able to save a HUGE amount each month. Just the fact that you are saving is most important and doing so in moderation is key.

--->Check out the redesigned website for Essence magazine. I like their new motto: fierce, fun and fabulous! They have lots of new features, see it.
--->Dash into your fave consignment shop to see if they have any "new arrivals." You may just snag a good buy for an upcoming getaway or event.
--->Order take-out tonight with the family, sweetie, or pals. You've been good all week by taking your lunch and eating dinner at home. Don't forget to check under the refrigerator magnets for coupons. Enjoy!

Summer Job Savings

As I'm beginning to write this blog post, the rock tune with the catchy lyrics "school's out for the summer" plays in my head. I can't recall the group, but their song was a hit and I remember lots of us singing it when the school year ended. Many teens and college students are hoping to land a full- or part-time job over the summer break. Given the tough job market and plenty of unemployed people looking for work, the competition will be fierce. I know there will be lots of activities over the summer that kids will want to participate in and having a summer job will surely help pay for many of these events. However, it's a good idea to save some of the money earned on the summer job. I suggest saving $5 per paycheck in order to help pay for things you will need when school starts such as clothes, footwear, supplies and more. If you are able to save more, that's even better. I think you will be surprised at how much you've saved by the time the summer job ends. Don't forget that taking your lunch to work is a good way to save money by not eating out. If it's feasible, check with a co-worker who may be working the same hours to see if you can carpool.

I have heard that young adults and college graduates will be the first hires by companies when they truly start to ramp up their hiring. I like this news and they deserve a chance to get their foot in the door to start on a career path. Be frugal with your summer job earnings and you will be ready to head back to school with all the things you need. Frugal Rocks!

A Sunday Short

Just a short Sunday post to say hello everyone! I had the most fun yesterday hanging out with one of my gal pals. We went to our favorite flea market to look around and find bargains. There is a booth that carries really fresh veggies and fruits. Unfortunately, they weren't there so we were a bit bummed out. They are always in the same spot and we thought somehow we just missed them. It's an elderly couple who are the friendliest and make you feel welcome at their booth. I did find a cute picture frame for only $.50 cents. It's sitting on my coffee table without a picture in it for now :-) I bought some peaches that are so fresh. I love the aroma when they are sitting on the kitchen counter and had one for brunch today. This was supposed to be a short post right, I'd better close now. Have a lovely day!

Healthy Eating ->Cool Salad

Turning on the oven in this heat is probably the last thing any of us want to do. No one wants to add to the hotness inside the house and have the A/C run even more trying to cool the house down. One of my favorite episodes of Seinfeld is where Elaine asks George to pick her up a big salad. She describes the big salad as having lots of stuff on top of it. You can really jazz up a salad by topping it with lots of yummy stuff. Start out by using a leafy green lettuce like romaine which is hearty and crunchy. Top it with fruit faves such as mango, oranges, strawberries, cantaloupe, and peaches. Don't forget the cool cucumbers and tomatoes. Plus, add sliced turkey or chicken too. One more thing, go easy on the salad dressing when pouring on top. Start out lightly, you can always add a bit more if needed. Stay Cool and Enjoy!

Junk Mail Tip

I think most of us would rather skip opening junk mail and marketers are getting savvy by making the envelopes look so official, but when you open them it's a sales pitch for something. Don't just throw unopened mail in the trash even when you suspect it might be junk. Many of us have heard of "dumpster divers" who actually go through trash to look for information with personal information on it. Be on the safe side by opening and then shredding junk mail especially credit card offers...who needs those anyway.

Delightful Sunday

Hello to Sunday and it's delightful! I won't bore you with the details of the weather. I think you probably know by now that it's steamy hot in Atlanta and around the country. The weather folks told us to look for these hot temps for the next 10 days. There is the cutest family of 4 hummingbirds that have been stopping by my backyard for drinks...let me explain that by saying they are quenching their thirst at the birdbath :-) I get my share of birds, but this is a first for the hummingbirds. Last year, I did spot one feeding on the nectar of the hanging petunia flower at my front door. A pretty sight!

I did a small organization project in my closet this morning. I still had some turtlenecks on the shelves that made me hot just looking at them. I put in their place some lighter tops in nice, cool pastel colors. I will admit that I have a serious pet-peeve on keeping clothes of the same color together. You won't find a pair of black slacks for example mixed in with beige or gray. Each color remains in it's section. It's just me, but worth a try in your own closet.

There's one slice of leftover frozen pizza so that will be lunch. I'm thinking stir fry veggies over pasta for Sunday dinner. I bought some good-looking peaches and sliced them in a bowl for a cool snack. Yum is the word!

New Month, Budget Review

Welcome to the new month of June and all things new as I like to say. Greet those first of the month bills with enthusiasm that you have the money to pay them. In these tough economic times, some people are juggling what bills will get paid. A good practice for the new month is to review your budget and see how well things are going. Are you able to add $5 dollars to the monthly savings plan? Right now, no one can escape the high cost of food and gas. While gas prices have gone down a bit, keep your eye on other ways to commute to work like public transportation or carpool. As the air conditioners get cranked up, the electric bills will be going up too. If it's not quite that hot yet, open the windows until you really need to turn on the A/C. Here's an idea ->Look for a part-time job or extra gig on the weekends to help with expenses.
